A speed sensor is a type of tachometer. It is a sender device used for reading the speed of a vehicles wheel rotation. It usually consists of a toothed ring and pickup. It provides information to the ECM about the position of a component, the speed of a component, and the change in speed of a component.
Typically, speed sensors are used to provide a shut down signal to an AMOT Engine Shutdown, including diesel and gas engines used to power pumps, compressors, generators, welders, and vehicles.
